Avalanche notebook from Tampa Bay; Everything going right

TAMPA – Well, that was quite a result, one that I didn’t expect. I thought this Avalanche team might be a little tired tonight, coming into Tampa Bay for their fourth game in six days, against a Lightning team that is still just a year removed from tying the all-time NHL record for wins in a season.

Silly me.

The Avs didn’t necessarily dominate the game puck-possession wise, but they were the more sure-handed team I thought. Especially in that second period in which the Avs scored all three goals.

This team has 15 points after the first eight games, and are 3-0-1 so far on a road trip that was supposed to have been formidable. There are still two more tough games on the trip, on paper, (St. Louis and Vegas) but the Avs are a team you don’t really want to bet against right now.
