All Hail Cale: Makar makes winning difference in tough Avs win

Cale Makar

I think the above picture tells a lot of the story about tonight: Cale Makar was the guy everybody was talking about, and the guy everybody wanted to talk to.

It takes a 19-man village to win a hockey game, and for sure, the Avalanche had a lot of supporting players in their 4-2 victory over the Columbus Blue Jackets Saturday night.

But Cale Makar was The Man in this one. His back-to-back goals in the second period were the winning difference in the Avs’ second win in a row, one that puts them 10-5-2 heading into a five-game Western road trip, starting Tuesday in Winnipeg.

The Avs lost that draft lottery in 2017, but really they hit the jackpot. Makar fell to them at No. 4 overall. He’d go No. 1 if that draft were revised. He would absolutely go No. 1.
