Morning Skate Notebook: Greer recalled, Grubauer returns

CALGARY, Alberta – The Avalanche finally got their No. 1 goalie back.

Philipp Grubauer, who has been practicing the last few days but still wasn’t ready to return to the lineup, is ready now. The Avs confirmed he will start against the Calgary Flames tonight at the Saddledome.

Adam Werner was sent back to the Colorado Eagles, meaning Antoine Bibeau remains on the roster for now. But, Pavel Francouz is skating regularly again, too, and the Avs say he is activated again. So, he’ll be the backup for Grubauer tonight.

With Matt Calvert back in Denver being examined by team doctors, the Avs recalled A.J. Greer from the Eagles. Greer had two goals in nine games for the Eagles. Those assault charges from the summer against him, by the way, were dismissed.

I’m hearing that the damage done to Calvert’s head by that puck in Vancouver was more to the back of the head, and not the side/ear. As of yet, there has been no diagnosis of a concussion, though Calvert was put into the concussion protocol.

So, it remains a battered team injury-wise. But at least the goalie is back.
