That Bo Byram was named to the Team Canada World Junior training camp roster was a given. What wasn’t as much a given: Would fellow Avalanche prospect Alex Newhook make the list or not?

Turns out, Newhook made it too. Canada named its 31-player training camp list not long ago, and the Avs placed their arguably top two major junior prospects on the list. The World Junior tournament is next month in the Czech Republic.

Byram, the fourth overall selection by the Avs in this year’s NHL draft, has 17 points in 24 games for the Vancouver Giants of the Western Hockey League.

Newhook, taken 16th overall, is a freshman center at Boston College. has six goals and 11 points in 13 games for the Eagles. Canada must trim to a final roster of 23 players for the tournament.
