Morning skate notebook: Cale Makar returns tonight

Published

on

Hello from the Pepsi Center, where YOUR Colorado Avalanche return to game action tonight against the Minnesota Wild. The team will wear their navy third jerseys tonight. The game has an early start, don’t forget (6 p.m.).

Cale Makar will wear one of those jerseys. The NHL’s most dominant rookie player returns 20 days after suffering an upper-body injury in Boston.

Makar will add what he adds: a two-way, highly-skilled fast defensive presence and a quarterback on the top power-play unit.

Jared Bednar also announced that Pavel Francouz will start in goal. Do we have a goalie controversy on our hands? I don’t think so just yet. The Avs are playing back-to-back games, so Grubauer gets the start tomorrow in Dallas. If Francouz were to start two games in a row with a day off in between and Grubauer was healthy?

Then, OK, yeah: we’ll have a goaltending controversy.

Other than Colin Wilson still being on the shelf, this is the healthiest the Avs have been all season.
