Avalanche postgame: Special teams continue to haunt in road-trip opener loss to Flyers

PHILADELPHIA – First off, it’s WAY too early still, to start watching out-of-town scoreboards and fretting over potential playoff matchups. But there was a chance for the Avalanche to gain entry into that hallowed hall favored by all sports teams – the place of “controlling our own destiny.”

A win over the Philadelphia Flyers here Saturday night, combined with the St. Louis Blues’ loss to Winnipeg, would have moved the Avs to within six points of the Blues in the race for the Central Division title, with three games still in hand.
