Glover column: Kaut Me In. I’m A Fan.

The plan was not to call-up Martin Kaut this season, rather, let him marinate in Loveland and build on developing his game. With the Avalanche roster losing bodies quicker than a volunteer session for a septic tank company experient, Kaut has been called into action and is keeping his head above water at NHL level.

Initial Reception At The Draft

Drafted 16th overall in the 2018 NHL draft, the pick would quickly be maligned by many fans and pundits, but I’m not entirely sure why.

Was it the non-life threatening heart condition that held him out from a portion of the combine?  Maybe people didn’t view him as flashy or with as much upside as some of the prospects available? Many called it a safe pick, but in a world where first-round picks yield only a small success rate, isn’t safe good?
