Glover column: The Covid-19 Effect: How it could change the 2020-21 season

Published

on

With Covid-19 not showing few signs of slowing in the United States, my hope for any kind of hockey again this season is all but gone. If we do get some more hockey in, it’ll be a pleasant surprise. For now, my stick is in the rack.

But looking ahead, IF there is to be more hockey this season in any format, it may drastically change how the Avalanche and the other 31 franchises attack the 2020-21 season.

Implications

Say we get a shortened playoffs and maybe a shortened regular season; that’s a great result! Hockey would be BACK! The resulting things would have to happen in order to accommodate such: The off-season would need to be drastically reduced as would any potential pre-season type activity, maybe even a condensed 20-21 season (although the NHL has said it would be very hesitant to impinge on a full one).

So how does that translate to the roster and it’s the construction? What are the implications? Lemme hit you with some knowledge!
