Edmonton Quarantine Life, Day 4: I make a mean grilled cheese still

EDMONTON, ALBERTA – I’ll come right out and say it: I’m a damn good cook for a guy. I love to cook. Well, some of the time. I do all the cooking in our family, and have for the entirety of my 19-year marriage to Heidi. I am terrible as a handyman, with almost no mechanical skills, and Heidi is pretty good at all that stuff, but she doesn’t like to cook much. So, for us, it’s perfect. Otherwise, Heidi is 100-percent the boss of the family. She’s in charge.

So, the Twain met today in that regard. I made myself a ridiculously great grilled cheese for lunch, one with black forest ham as well. Last night, I made some very fine spaghetti and white clam sauce, properly doused with pepper. One of my favorites – and one in which Heidi and my son, Tommy, can’t stand.

Last night, it was boiling in my airbnb, the first real hot night of my stay so far. There is no air conditioning in the place, and I’m on the third floor of the building, so I made a plea to one of my buddies here to get me a cheap fan, and I’d pay him back.
