Avs Draft: Who is the best player available at No. 25?
For years and years when I covered this Avs franchise, the one thing I knew I could always count on to hear was: “We’ll just take best player available.” That’s because the Avs always had a pick late in the first round of the draft, because they always finished high in the standings.
For a few painful years there, the Avs had much higher picks in the first round. That has helped the Avs fall back down deeper into the selection order. While having a high pick on draft day creates lots of buzz among the fan base, let’s face it: you don’t want to have a lottery pick every year. That means your team sucked in the regular season.
So, there will be very little buzz surrounding the Avalanche and the 2020 draft, which will take place Tuesday and Wednesday by virtual, Zoom video calls. The Avs don’t pick until 25th in the first round. Their next pick after that? Not until No. 75.
