New pod: Halifax Mooseheads writer talks about Justin Barron (and Nathan MacKinnon)

Can't Hear What Jeremy Says

A new podcast here for your listening pleasure. I just got a new laptop and the audio from my taped call on it is a tad murky, but overall pretty easy to decipher. My guest is Willy Palov, a longtime writer with the Halifax Chronicle-Herald who covers the Mooseheads of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League.

He covered new Avs draft pick Justin Barron in Halifax, and he also covered Nathan MacKinnon in his days there. He has a lot of great insight into what kind of player and person Barron is, and he tells some good stories about MacKinnon.

The pod, as always, is sponsored by Total Beverage, with locations in Thornton and Westminster. Use the promo code AD10 in the checkout box of Total Beverage’s website for $10 off your next order of $25 or more, either with delivery or pickup at the store. They now have contactless delivery right to your door, in the metro Denver area, in 60 minutes or less.

I love these interviews. The advanced analytics and the clever insights into the games are great, but it’s the stories behind the game that really make the sport mean something.

I particularly liked the commentary about Makar’s role in relationship to MacKinnon. The arrival of Makar was no doubt sensational but he really seems to have shifted the dynamic of the team. It no longer feels like MacKinnon is the lone quarterback of the Avs offense, but instead in Makar he’s got a deputy who in terms of talent and ambition is a genuine equal.
