Avs-Blues Live: First period analysis

Published

on

Well, this has certainly been a unique experience for everyone here at Ball Arena. The piped-in crowd noise is LOUD. The action was FAST. Unfortunately for the Avs, they’re down 2-1 after one period to the St. Louis Blues.

The Avs got steadily worse as the period wore on. St. Lous got 18 shots on goal, despite the Avs getting two power plays to their one.

Andre Burakovsky gave the Avs a 1-0 lead with a PPG, but the Blues capitalized on some out-of-position Avs D-men and turnovers to take the lead.

There was an injury scare early in the game. Devon Toews, who has never missed a game in his career, left the ice early after taking a hit to the head. He went off for concussion protocol but good news: It wasn’t too long before he was back on the ice.

The Avs definitely need to regroup here and start playing smarter with the puck. They were far too charitable with it, and the Blues’ heavy forecheckers will make you pay. Now the Avs have to play catch-up hockey against still one of the better defensive teams in the league. Avs were just a little too herky-jerky and seemingly nervous looking in that period. Forty minutes to go.
