Nathan MacKinnon

Nathan MacKinnon will miss his second straight game tonight against the Anaheim Ducks because of the upper-body injury suffered Wednesday night in San Jose following a hit from Sharks forward Joachim Blichfeld which warranted a two-game suspension from the NHL.

The Avs did not hold a morning skate and there was no media availability from anyone with the team, so we’ll have to wait until after the game for more information on MacKinnon’s status moving forward. The team said he started not feeling well Friday afternoon, after skating in the morning and seemingly being good to go for Friday’s game with the Ducks. He wound up being a scratch.

The Avs also announced that J.T. Compher would miss the game because of an upper-body injury. He took a hard hit in Friday’s game and seemed to be in some pain afterward, though he kept playing. Jayson Megna was recalled from the Colorado Eagles and took Compher’s spot in the lineup.

Stay tuned to Colorado Hockey Now for developments as they arise.

Hunter Miska will start in goal for the Avs, who have won two straight games and four of their last five.
