Avs Game Grades: Gone fishing

Conor Timmins celebrates, Avs win 5/1/2021

Gabe Landeskog (A-) – Almost scored in the first after a seeing-eye, back-door pass from Nathan MacKinnon and then took a very  debatable penalty in the second for goaltender interference, which San Jose would score on seconds in. And that’s kind of a microcosm of how the game went for everyone. C’est la vie. He got another later in the game, but I think overall it was a pretty decent game tonight for the Avs captain.

Nathan MacKinnon (A) – MacKinnon was held shotless for the first time in 263 games on Friday night. So what does he do tonight? Chucks a team-high nine shots on goal. Oh, and he scored. Good night.

Mikko Rantanen (A) – Here’s something obvious: Mikko Rantanen is incredibly important to this team. He tallied an assist tonight but probably could’ve had at least two more. That pass between the legs of a Sharks defender to Devon Toews on a two-on-one in the first was a thing of beauty. Then, those two connected again in the third when Rantanen tipped a Toews point shot. That’s Rantanen’s 28th of the year, good for 3rd in the league.
