Avalanche development camp roster features Byram, Newhook, Annunen

The Avalanche just released its development camp roster, which will also participate in the Rookie Showcase in Arizona this month Despite playing this past season, Alex Newhook and Bo Byram will be part of the roster.

That’s probably the biggest newsy item from the roster release, along with the dates when things happen, which is as follows:

Development Camp: Sept. 12-14

Rookie practice/travel: Sept. 16

Rookie Tournament in Arizona: Sept. 17-20

Many of you will ask: are the practices, at Family Sports Center, open to the public? Here’s what the team told me:

“The Avalanche organization is hopeful that rookie and training camp practices at Family Sports Center will be open to the public and we will continue to follow the guidelines set forth by the NHL and the Tri-County Health Department.”

So, I guess the answer is: maybe.

Byram and Newhook will still be classified as rookies in the NHL this season. They’ll certainly add some cachet to the camp. It’ll be nice to see first-round picks Justin Barron and Oskar Olausson there too, along with top prospect goalie Justus Annunen. Keep an eye on Jean-Luc Foudy too. He’s got a real chance to play this season, maybe as an injury call-up.
