Thoughts and observations on Avs’ Shootout LOSS to Arizona

The Colorado Avalanche extended their home unbeaten streak to 19 straight games Tuesday night in their 3-2 shootout loss to the Arizona Coyotes.

And some people call me a pessimist…

Hey, that’s the true fact of tonight’s Avs game, though, even though there is much gnashing of teeth tonight in Avs Nation, no doubt. The Avs lost to the +450 Coyotes in the shootout, blowing a 2-1 lead with under a minute left in regulation.

Darcy Kuemper was beaten in the final minute on a bouncing puck near his crease, then allowed one goal on three shots in the shootout. That’s pretty good, but the Avs couldn’t put any of three shots by Coyotes goalie Scott Wedgewood (who?).

The Avs’ home unbeaten streak thus comes to an unceremonious end at 18 games.

“This shouldn’t happen, especially at home,” said Avs forward Mikko Rantanen, who scored his 24th goal in the game. “But, it is what it is.”
