Takeaways and Observations from Avalanche win over Buffalo

Well, it ended up the way most everyone in the universe thought it would end up. The Colorado Avalanche won a puck-line decision over the Buffalo Sabres, 5-3, on a Saturday afternoon.

But it wasn’t a rocking chair win at all. The Avs were tied with Buffalo 3-3 in the third period, with Buffalo’s Tage Thompson scoring thrice. But Alex Newhook won it was a one-timer off a gorgeous feed from Mikko Rantanen, and Rantanen added the empty-netter with 51 seconds left.

Thus, the Avs had another to the win column, on the second of a four-game road trip. Avs at Boston Monday afternoon.
