The Claude Giroux melodrama continues with a month remaining before the NHL trading deadline.

This is sometimes forgotten: There was a time in the not-so-long-again NHL past when the deadline was roughly three weeks before the end of the regular season.

That was ridiculously late.

This season?

The March 21 trading deadline is five and a half weeks before the April 29 end of the regular season.

The Avalanche will have 20 games remaining at the deadline.

That’s still too late.
