Avs player grades from a loss (wait, a loss????) to Arizona…

Jack Johnson: B – Couple of big hits in his 1001 game played and little over 16 minutes played. Almost scored on a point shot too.

Erik Johnson: B- – He had a couple of hits tonight. Meh, can’t win them all. Onto the next one.

Devon Toews: B+ – Great job tonight identifying on when to jump up into the rush. Beautiful wrister from the top on his goal. He will definitely be in the Norris conversation.

Cale Makar: B+ – Laser of a pass to Toews. The point streak just keeps on going. And going. And going. 10 straight games with at least one apple.

Nicolas Aube-Kubel : D – Not a whole lot from him tonight. He’s strung together a few quiet games now.

Tyson Jost: C- -We saw the chippy side of Jost tonight getting into it at the faceoff a little bit. That was about it tonight.

Alex Newhook: D –  Lost his guy on the second goal. Not much in the way of offense. Bad combination for the kid.

Logan O’Connor: C- –  He was a little careless with the puck on the penalty kill. Had an easy clear and didn’t do it. Can’t have that come playoff time. He had three giveways tonight.

Ryan Murray: D – He was a minus one and a pretty empty stat line. No shots, one hit and no blocked shots.

Nathan MacKinnon: B+ – He was skating through the neutral zone as if no one was there and creating odd-man rushes with Rantanen. He just makes it look easy out there. Seven shots and an assist tonight. Scary ending as he took a stick to the face. I don’t think I’ve seen him that mad before.

J.T. Compher: B- – He had some pep in this step tonight. He was getting some quality looks offensively.

Darren Helm: C+ – Really solid game for Helm. Four shots and three hits and skated hard defensively and offensively.

Sam Girard: C- – I always enjoy his spin-o-rama move. Keeps the opposing team on their toes but after that, there really was much from him.

Kurtis MacDermid: C – 5 minutes played and three hits. He wasn’t noticeable tonight.

Nazem Kadri: C – He had six shot attempts and a penalty tonight. He’s played better before but you have to give credit where credit is due for the Coyotes.

Gabe Landeskog: C + – Avs are 3 for their last 35 power plays. That’s not all Landeskog’s fault, but the team really needs to get it going. The Captain had a couple of chances but couldn’t put one in. Hit the post with one shot. Dropped the gloves at the end after an emotional shift.

Andre Burakovsky:  C – He’s skating with more confidence by the way he took the puck out of the corner and crashed the net with it. But found himself a minus-two tonight.

Mikko Rantanen: B – He was flying again with MacKinnon but ran into a hot goalie. He played really well against the Avs tonight. Six shot attempts tonight.

Pavel Francouz: B –  Not sure I liked him skating past the faceoff dot to play the puck but other than that, there was hard to find anything to nitpick at. There wasn’t much he could do on the two goals.
