Well, it appears the puck to the face that Pavel Francouz took last night in Edmonton will cost him some time with the active roster. The Colorado Avalanche today recalled Justus Annunen from the Colorado Eagles, and he’ll either start Sunday’s game in Winnipeg, or be the backup to Darcy Kuemper.

There is no word yet on any prognosis for Francouz, who took a puck to the face while sitting on the bench in the first period last night and left the game. After the game, Jared Bednar said he thought Francouz was “OK”, but that the next morning would tell more. The news obviously wasn’t as good the next morning.

Bednar said Francouz might have been hit near an eye. Let’s hope there’s nothing broken, because those injuries can put a guy out for weeks.

Annunen has a 24-13-6 record with the Eagles, but the save percentage of .893 leaves something to be desired. He’s been somewhat streaky with the Eagles. He’s played two games previously this season with the Avs, with a 1-0-1 record and .863 save percentage.

The Avs are not practicing today, so more information on Francouz is unlikely until tomorrow.
