Avalanche fans still feeling confident – but not overconfident

Avs fans were pouring into Ball Arena as they were prepping for Game 2 of the second round. Many still recovering from the overtime victory in Game 1 Tuesday night. Let’s all take a deep breath in….and a deep breath out as we prepare for Game 2.

Before puck drop I had time to chat with a few fans on the first round sweeping, series predictions and of course…is this the year the Avs get over their second-round hump.

Brian Kerr has been an Avs fan his whole life and thought the first-round sweep against the Nashville Predators was “Dominating! Are you kidding me?”

Bryce Clark who is also a longtime Avs fan echoed the same sentiment.

“First round was awesome, one game got a little too close just because we were down but besides that I thought the first round was awesome that we swept the Predators and against Duchene.,” said Clark.

The Avs continue the “Ex-Av” tour with a matchup against Ryan O’Reilly, who had a goal on Tuesday night and plays against Nathan MacKinnon at even-strength.

Terrence Clagett who has been a fan since the Avs came to Denver in 1995 thinks this is the year the Avs breakthrough the second round and head to the Western Conference Finals for the first time since 2002.

“I think so, I think when you look at their offensive firepower it’s just remarkable compared to the rest of the league.” said Clagett.

“There’s always that second-round curse in the back of the mind but I think we can do it,” said Clark ” It’s definitely not going to be a sweep probably but within the seven games I think they’ll go on.”

The Avs peppered the Blues with 54 shots and for the most part, controlled the game. If not for a couple of shots hitting the post, it could have been a different game. The Avs stayed on track, never wavering  and skated away with the “W”. Most of the fans are giving the Blues a game or two but the overall feelings were the Avs would take the series.

Avs fan Joel Celaya summed it up. “St. Louis is a good competitor but they still beat them. Three more to go.”

Let’s hear it Avs fans…What’s your series prediction? How are you feeling?

Terrence Clagett : 4-2 Avs

Brian Kerr : 4-1 Avs

Bryce Clark : 4-2 Avs

Joel Celaya : Stanley Cup
