Kroenke Avalanche

A good post-Labor Day Weekend Tuesday to all. Another scorcher today here in Thornton, might hit triple digits they say. Our AC is working again, but there is concern here at Chez Dater about an aging furnace. Let’s do some Avalanche and NHL notes and links, starting with how to give to a good cause – and also get yourself a voucher for two free Avalanche preseason tickets as a thank-you:

  • The 11th annual GiveSports equipment drive, to benefit A Precious Child organization, is not far away – Sept. 24 – and this year Kroenke Sports is giving a voucher to those who donate for two free tickets to an Avalanche preseason game, while supplies last. More details on this great cause here (Coloradoavalanche.com)
  • The late Jessica Redfield Ghawi is the inspiration for the annual equipment drive, something she started herself. For more on who she was, here’s something I wrote on my friend in 2012 for Sports Illustrated (SI.com)
  • Might the 44-year-old Pavel Datsyuk consider playing again in the KHL? (Detroit Hockey Now)
  • Brian Burke disagrees with critics who think the Penguins aren’t as good a team as last year (Pittsburgh Hockey Now)

  • Are the Calgary Flames and Edmonton Oilers engaging in a Battle of Alberta on the free agent market?
  • A deep dive into how hockey ice sheets are actually made in the rinks, specifically the one in Washington (Washington Hockey Now)
  • Jimmy Vesey, once courted by the Avalanche as a college free agent whose career didn’t pan out too well, might be a PTO participant with the Rangers (NY Post)
