Thoughts And Observations From Colorado Avalanche Rookie Faceoff Win Over L.A. (+)

Ben Meyers could have been the goat in today’s NHL Rookie Faceoff game between your Colorado Avalanche and the Los Angeles Kings, in the very first game ever played at the techcu Center in San Jose this afternoon. Instead, Meyers was the hero in Colorado’s 3-2 victory.

Meyers, on his first shift after coming out of the penalty box for a stick foul, scored the tie-breaking goal with 3:53 in the third period to win it for the Avalanche. Sampo Ranta and Oskar Olausson scored the other goals for the Avalanche and Justus Annunen played a reasonably strong game in net.

I watched most of the game and these are my brief thoughts and observations:
