Avalanche Takeaways: Mikko Rantanen Saves The Day (+)
ST. LOUIS – As the Colorado Avalanche came off the ice here at Enterprise Center, there was some extra excitement beyond just your average December regular-season victory. In the antiquated visitors’ dressing room (think: 1960s decor, metal hangers as a “locker”, no carpeting on the floor, a long, bare, skinny bench player seats), Avalanche players literally skipped to the Lou (my darling) after a semi-miracle 3-2 victory over Jordan Binnington (boo) and the St. Louis Blooooooos (that’s “Blues”). Mikko Rantanen was your Foo Fighters Superman on the game, with the hattie.
There were lots of high-fives and yelling from some of the young kids, happy for the OT win. Pavel Francouz, however, was as calm as ever. He took my congratulations with a very modest “Thank You.” Mikko Rantanen, though, was a bit more loquacious, after his HAT TRICK performance in the win, including a tying goal with 7.1 seconds left (later changed to 8.1 left) in the Avalanche’s best and most satisfying victory of the season.
