Brad Hunt avalanche

In a bit of a surprise, the Colorado Avalanche placed Brad Hunt on waivers Saturday morning.

The 34 year old defenseman has been a pleasant surprise on defense, filling in with all the injuries the Avalanche have dealt with. He’s chipped in with some important goals, adding three goals and three assists in 26 games.

Placing Hunt on waivers may mean good things for the health of Cale Makar and Josh Manson.

Makar was sent back to Denver, but has been skating on his own. Manson, who only skated once over the All-Star break, did go on the trip with the Avalanche. He’s not scheduled to play, but a sign he’s still progressing.

Waiving Hunt doesn’t necessarily mean he’ll be sent to the Colorado Eagles (if he clears). It is a little surprising they chose to waive him over Andreas Englund, whose been a healthy scratch more of late.

We will find out in 24 hours if Hunt clears waivers or not. Stay tuned to CHN for updates.
