Evan’s Scouting Report:

A quick glance at the numbers will make everything about Fisker Molgaard seem a little unimpressive, but that is not the case. As a 17 year old, the young Danish center worked his way up to the top league in Sweden, and never looked back. He started the season with the J20 team, and produced well, earning a shot with the main squad. That shot then turned into a full-time roster spot. He didn’t play a ton, averaging just under 10 minutes a game with the big league team, but you have to be a really smart player to earn ice-time at that level for someone his age, and he is. Hockey sense is one of his greatest strengths. Unlike Otto Stenberg, who is listed as both a winger and center, Fisker Molgaard is a center through and through. He reads plays very well and is a responsible defensive player in his own end. Effort is also not a question with him, as he’s a real hard worker and is able to keep up with the constant movement down low in the defensive zone. If there was anything that pushed him to wing, it would be his size. Otherwise, he has the traits you look for in a center.

Offensively, the biggest thing that jumps out is his ability to handle the puck in tight spaces. He’s good on the boards and on the cycle. At the SHL level, the offensive ability didn’t really have a chance to pop. When playing against his peers, the skills really started to shine through a little bit more. At the U-18’s, he was the top scorer in Division 1A and led Denmark is scoring by a fair bit. He’s also a real strong skater, and we know how much a team like Colorado values skating. That skating allows him to play with pace, which should translate well to the NHL.

The floor for him seems high, as a smart player with good skating ability always has a chance to succeed. The question for him will be how high is the ceiling. I think there is skill there offensively, but nothing gamebreaking in any way. Like Calum Ritchie, he projects to be more of a middle-six center, but I prefer the skating of Fisker Molgaard a little bit more.

Here’s a short highlight reel of the young center from his time in the SHL this past year.
