Avalanche Turning Point: 25 Seconds Of Cale Makar Being Better Than Everyone (+)
In the Turning Point, we’ll take a look at one moment in the previous Colorado Avalanche game that changed the momentum of the game.
The Avalanche didn’t play poorly through two periods on Wednesday night, but they didn’t exactly look like themselves, especially in the second period.
At the start of the third period, they had to kill off a little over a minute of a penalty. Once that was completed, it was time.
Time for the Cale Makar show.
25 Seconds of Cale Makar Domination
Sometimes, you need your star players to assert their dominance in a game so that your team can get over the finish line. That exactly what Makar did in the third period against the Blues.
It starts with a great read off a stretch pass in the neutral zone. Krug makes things a little easier because he’s just standing still, but Makar reads the play, and he’s off to the races.
Watch everyone’s eyes when Makar gets into the zone. Every single player on the Blues is staring at Makar, and he still finds a way to sauce a pass over to Lehkonen, who is not even in the picture at that point. Lehkonen gets a nice look, but Binnington makes the stop. Don’t worry, though. Artturi gets his revenge soon enough.
Unfortunately for the Blues, Makar is everywhere, as he corrals the rebound and sees Mikko Rantanen in front of the net. Parayko ties up Rantanen’s stick at the last second, and it heads to Devon Toews at the point, who sends it back down low.
Makar did head back to the point, but miraculously, the Blues make no attempt to cover him, so he sneaks into the circle again. Rantanen hits Makar, but the star defenseman already knew where the puck was headed before it even got to him. He sends a ridiculous slap-pass to Lehkonen, who is all alone in front, and the Finn extends the Avalanche lead to 3-1.
In 25 seconds, Cale Makar showed why he is the best defenseman in the world, and essentially put an end to the game.
He’s built different.
