Evan’s NHL Daily: Big Trade Coming? Utah Nearing Logo

With the Stanley Cup Final not starting until Saturday, NHL teams are sitting around doing nothing. If the series goes the full seven games, teams won’t have much time to do anything between the time the Cup is handed out and the NHL Draft, where a lot of business goes down. That means teams might be using the next few days to get some business done, and one insider believes at least one big trade could go down.
We got some news late on Monday night that the Avalanche and Jonathan Drouin’s camp will likely be meeting this week. That doesn’t mean a deal is close, but it’s a good sign.
All that and more in this Tuesday edition of Evan’s Daily.

You need a lot more than big guns to win in the NHL, but the Oilers and Panthers meeting in the Final is a sign that you can still win with some high paid players.
He’s not a big name player, but the Avalanche sure could use a guy like Evan Rodrigues right now.
Some news (sort of), as Chris MacFarland is expected to meet with the agent of Jonathan Drouin this week.
Big Move Coming?
Every NHL team other than the two in the Final are sitting around doing nothing, so why not make a trade this week? According to Frank Seravalli of Daily Faceoff, that might just happen.
“I wouldn’t be shocked to see him moved by Saturday,” Seravalli said on his podcast.
Who is he talking about? Martin Necas of the Carolina Hurricanes, who a lot of teams would love to get their hands on. Three teams he specifically mentioned that were interested were Vancouver, Calgary, and Columbus.
Necas took a step back this year with 53 points after scoring 71 last year, but he’s still a really talented player, one who picked up a Hat Trick against the Avalanche earlier this season. The big reason why Carolina would want to get this done early is because they have other business they want to take care of, like re-signing Jake Guentzel before he hits the open market. Sounds like thatโs unlikely to happen.
We’ll see if business picks up this week.
Utah Logo
The NHL team in Utah won’t have an official name for a while, but it sounds like they’re inching closer to a logo for their inaugural season.
Applications for trademarks have been filed for eight logos for the Utah Hockey Club (including the one that circulated last week).

I’ll be honest, I really don’t care much about this one. It’s only for one season, and I’m not quite sure why they can’t just pick out an official name right now, but it is what it is. I’m not a logo guy, so which ones do you all like, if any?
