Evan’s NHL Daily: Meet MacKinnon And Landeskog’s Chef, EJ Accepts New Role
Everyone knows that Nathan MacKinnon takes his diet very, very seriously, but he’s not the only one. NHL players prioritizing their diets has become more and more common over the last decade or so, and a recent article by the Westwood shined the spotlight on the personal chef for MacKinnon and Gabriel Landeskog.
Erik Johnson is just a few games away from hitting 1,000 in the NHL, and he knows who he is at this point in his career. That’s why he was comfortable coming back in the role Philadelphia will be using him in.
There really aren’t many fights anymore in the NHL, although Matt Rempe seems to be trying to bring it back. His off-season training with Georges Laraque would seem to indicate he’s not going to stop anytime soon. If he’s going to become the best fighter in the league, he’s got some work to do to pass someone in his own division.
Colorado Hockey Now
The Avalanche have a need for another center and more talent in their lineup to start the year. Why not give Calum Ritchie a shot at the NHL level to see what he can do?
News And Rumors
Westword: Curtis Bell was once the personal chef for Von Miller of the Denver Broncos. Since then, he’s also become the personal chef for Nathan MacKinnon and Gabriel Landeskog, helping fuel those two to become Stanley Cup champions. This article is fantastic and every Avalanche fan should read it. I liked this part about the most recent Hart Trophy winner…
โHe has a reputation for being very serious about his diet, which is appealing to me. … Some of the Broncos players that Iโd work with, they have nutritionists and they want to focus on their nutrition, but theyโll cheat. On their off days, [and especially since] they only have one game a week, theyโve got a lot more days between their games that they can maybe eat at Chick-fil-A,โ Bell explains. โBut Nate is so dialed into his diet.โ
New Jersey Hockey Now: We know Kurtis MacDermid is a great fighter, but we didn’t see a ton of it in Colorado, as he didn’t fight all that much. That will likely be different in New Jersey, and a study showed that he was unbeatable last season in the NHL.
Speaking of guys MacDermid will likely face, Matt Rempe seems to be focusing a lot on improving his fighting techniques. I’m not sure this will get him on the ice more, so hopefully he’s also working on other parts of his game.

Pittsburgh Hockey Now: Offer sheets just don’t happen in the NHL, but if they did, here are three guys that might make sense for the Penguins.
Philly Hockey Now: He was never considering retiring, not when he was this close to 1,000 NHL games. It just might be a very different role next season for Erik Johnson.
