Evan’s NHL Daily: Angry Vegas Fans, Marner Trade Deadline
It’s been all rainbows and sunshine for the Golden Knights since they entered the NHL in 2017. Sure, they missed the playoffs two years ago, but they followed that up with a Stanley Cup victory, so I think they can live with that. On top of winning, they seem to make a big splash every off-season and trade deadline. Heck, they did it again this March. However, this off-season, they’ve been remarkably quiet, and have lost arguably the most important player in franchise history for nothing. This is a franchise that hasn’t exactly had to go through many hardships, so maybe that’s why the fanbase is so angry right now.
When the Maple Leafs were eliminated from the playoffs, everyone said there was a good chance Mitch Marner was a goner. Guess what? It’s July 14 and he’s still with the organization. With most teams packing up for the summer, how likely is that to change?
Colorado Hockey Now
There have been some changes in Russia, and it might be easier for NHL teams to get their prospects to North America. That could be good news for the Avalanche when it comes to Mikhail Gulyayev.
News And Rumors
Vegas fans aren’t super happy with how things have played out this offseason, and a lot of that has to do with them letting Jonathan Marchessault leave via free agency. It’s a franchise that has proven to be ruthless in the past with their players, and this one seems to have struck a chord the fans. But if I know anything about that franchise, it’s that they’ll probably pull a rabbit out of a hat and make a big splash when no one is looking.
Toronto Sun: Speaking of guys Vegas could acquire, Mitch Marner is still in Toronto. The word out of the NHL Draft back at the end of June was that if something was going to get done it might take a few weeks to get finalized. Well, it’s been a few weeks and nothing. Will Marner be a member of the Leafs when training camp starts?
Pittsburgh Hockey Now: Most NHL GM’s have turned on the out-of-office voicemails, so trades don’t seem likely. Who is a free agent that would make sense for the Penguins?
Florida Hockey Now: Their names are on the Stanley Cup now. Which members of the Florida Panthers made the cut?
Detroit Hockey Now: Dominik Hasek is critical of the timing of Pavel Datsyuk getting into the Hall of Fame.
Forever Blueshirts: The Rangers got some business done on the blueline Saturday, but it didn’t involve trading Jacob Trouba.
