Evan’s NHL Daily: Yakupov Reps Avalanche; Penguins Wait For Crosby; Meet The New Scout
No, Nail Yakupov is probably not coming back to the NHL. In fact, his KHL numbers have been pretty darn pedestrian over the past several years, so he’s not even really an elite player over there. However, the former Avalanche forward repped his old practice jersey on Instagram and confused current and former members of Colorado.
Speaking of the Avalanche, they brought in a new scout for this coming season at the 2024 NHL Draft, and she was profiled in a great feature on NHL.com.
Is Sidney Crosby going to wait to sign his contract extension on 8/7 because he’s a superstitious guy? Either way, the Penguins are holding up other business until they get that big extension done.
Colorado Hockey Now
The Avalanche have a new coach up in Loveland, and he’s very excited about helping young players develop and get better. A podcast with Dan Hinote.
Colorado will see a lot of Brock Faber in the coming years after his big extension with the Wild.
Currently watching video for the upcoming Erik Brannstrom film room. Look for that at the end of the week or Monday of next week for all CHN+ members.
Brannstrom played really well against the Avs last season. Here he is with a good stick on Mr. Hart Trophy.
Also, the Avs dressed RyJo and Ben Meyers in this game. Some things are best left forgotten. pic.twitter.com/nVQMzUtdUR

News And Rumors
The Avalanche have a new scout in the organization who became the first female scout in the OHL back in 2020. Meet Kiana Scott.
Nail Yakupov is not returning to the Avalanche (at least, I don’t think he is), but he got some attention on Instagram from some current and former members of the organization when he posted a handful of pictures in his old practice jersey. I guess he never gave it back.

That guy was a character. Maybe not the best NHL player, but a real character. As far as I know, he doesn’t have a KHL contract right now, so I guess never say never.
Pittsburgh Hockey Now: The Penguins have some other extensions they would like to get done, but nothing is getting done until they can get that extension done for Sidney Crosby.
Philly Hockey Now: The Hurricanes kicked the can down the road by giving Martin Necas a two-year deal. That means he’s still around in Carolina…for now.
New Jersey Hockey Now: New Jersey re-signed a young goaltender to a two-year extension, but he’s kind of stuck behind Jacob Markstrom for now.
