It’s 8/7, which could also be known as Sidney Crosby Day in the NHL world. Does that mean the contract extension everyone has been expecting him to sign this summer is going to get done? Or will this drag on even longer, keeping hope alive for Avalanche fans that he could end up in Denver on a line with Nathan MacKinnon someday?

While Colorado fans wait on a Mikko Rantanen extension to get done, Edmonton fans are waiting to see what will happen with Leon Draisaitl. On Tuesday, their new GM gave an update on where contract talks are currently at.

After signing Oliver Kylington on Monday, the Avalanche are now seven or eight deep on defense, depending on what you think about Sam Malinski. They’ll have options, and one might be trading a defenseman for a forward, but I’d hold off on that for a bit until we see a lot more, especially if the guy that could be on the move is Sam Girard.
