DENVER – There isn’t much going on around the NHL, and that isn’t likely to change for a few weeks, so let’s take a look back. Here are the most relevant stories to the Avalanche from the last week, and a look at what is coming at CHN.

MONDAY

After Evgeni Kuznetsov left for the KHL, people started to wonder if the same could happen to Nichushkin. Apparently KHL teams are wondering the same thing, as one didn’t exactly rule out the possibility of adding Valeri Nichushkin.

Although they had a few defensemen built the same way, the Avalanche weren’t done adding to their blueline, bringing in the speedy Oliver Kylington on a one-year deal.

TUESDAY

After adding Kylington, the Avalanche are seven or eight deep on defense, depending on how you view Sam Malinski. That doesn’t mean it’s time to go trading a Sam Girard or Josh Manson.

WEDNESDAY

With the World Junior Summer Showcase complete, projections are out for Team Canada, and it looks like Avalanche prospect Calum Ritchie is as close to a lock as you can get.

Basketball and hockey are completely different sports, but Lonzo Ball is back scrimmaging with no restrictions. As Ball had the same surgery, is there hope for Gabriel Landeskog?

THURSDAY

Colorado made some history on Wednesday, hiring just the third female coach to a full-time job in either the AHL or NHL. That female would be Kim Weiss.

We’ve got a film room dropping on him today, so it’ll be a few years before anyone sees him in North America, but when he does come over, it’s NHL or bust for Mikhail Gulyayev.

FRIDAY

Oliver Kylington explains why he chose the Avalanche, and although he didn’t return, he’s grateful for everything the Flames did for him.

Likely to impact the Eagles roster a heck of a lot more than the Avalanche one, but the organization added another forward in Matthew Phillips.

SATURDAY

Did he have a better season last year than Kirill Kaprizov? Apparently Russian media members believe that was the case for Ilya Nabokov.

SUNDAY

Some encouraging stats from last season heading into a new year, including how dominant Miles Wood was on the penalty kill.
