Evan’s NHL Daily: Legend Retiring, Offer Sheet Fun
On Tuesday, we got our first offer sheet in the NHL in almost three years. Actually, we got two, which makes it double the fun. Why not more? There are a few other players that still don’t have contracts and things could get really interesting if another team decided to approach them with an offer sheet.
He’s made some of the more memorable calls in NHL history, but this will be his last year with the New York Rangers, as Sam Rosen is calling it a career. We’re losing some of the great voices in the game.
Colorado Hockey Now
Those offer sheets yesterday might impact the Avalanche, as the Blues are in their division. Still, even if one or both of them manage to end up in St. Louis, I’m not sure it’ll change their positioning in the standings much when it comes to the Central Division.
Yesterday, NHN announced a massive flash sale where you can get a year subscription for just $10. No code needed, just a $10 subscription for a year. That comes out to less than $1 a month. That gives you access to CHN+ content, an ad-free experience, and the ability to read + content on any site in the network. This sale only goes until Friday, so don’t miss out!
News And Rumors
Forever Blueshirts: He’s one of the best to ever do it, but this will the last season for Sam Rosen calling Rangers games. Here are some of his best calls ever.
Montreal Hockey Now: Montreal is one of the few teams in the league that is still sitting on some cap space. How can they take advantage of the offer sheets yesterday to maybe add some picks?
New Jersey Hockey Now: One guy who hasn’t signed a contract yet is Dawson Mercer. If a team was to approach him with an offer sheet, what would it look like for the young forward?
Pittsburgh Hockey Now: The Penguins made a few moves yesterday and seem to be accumulating picks. They also happened to pick up the guy who went two picks after Cale Makar, Cody Glass.
It’s telling that the Predators had to give away Glass and include draft picks to do it. Teams just don’t want to take salary unless the other side makes it worth their time. Glass scores six goals last year, and if you remember, half of them came in one game against the Avalanche.
San Jose Hockey Now: Don’t forget the Sharks when it comes to offer sheets! They’re sitting on cap space and could take on a guy like Cody Ceci to help out the Oilers…if Edmonton sweetens the deal.
Chicago Hockey Now: With Auston Matthews taking over the captaincy in Toronto, is it just a matter of time before the Blackhawks turn everything over to Connor Bedard?
Sportsnet: Tampa Bay has one of the best owners in the NHL…or at least they do right now. Jeff Vinik is putting the team up for sale, although he’ll keep control for a while. Times are changing for the Tampa Bay Lightning.
