Evan’s NHL Daily: Hockey League Scam, PTO Season

A few months back, there were rumors of a 3-on-3 league being funded by billionaires that was going to steal away NHL players. Many were skeptical of something like this happening, and for good reason. On Thursday, more proof that the entire league is a scam came out. I don’t think the NHL has to worry about this league any time soon.

We’re entering PTO season. Last summer, the Avalanche signed Joel Kiviranta to a PTO late in August, and it’s already starting this summer, as the Capitals are bringing back someone who helped them win the Stanley Cup five years ago.

NHL Network comes out with new rankings every summer for the top players at every position. Last year, they had David Pastrnak above everyone. This year, he’s below Mikko Rantanen. Not sure I can agree with that…

Until tomorrow, NHN is having a flash sale where you can get a year subscription for just $10. No code needed, just a $10 subscription for a year. That comes out to less than $1 a month. That gives you access to CHN+ content, an ad-free experience, and the ability to read + content on any site in the network. This sale only goes until Saturday, so don’t miss out!

News And Rumors

X: Major League Hockey always seemed like a scam, and they’re not doing anything to prove otherwise. Making people pay to tryout for your league? Yeah, that’s what scammers do. It’s a shame, because a 3-on-3 league (in a smaller rink) would be entertaining to watch, but I don’t buy this for a second.

Washington Hockey Now: Jakub Vrana once picked up back-to-back 20 goal seasons for the Washington Capitals and helped them win a Stanley Cup. Since then, it’s been a tough go for him, and he’s had a stint in the NHL/NHLPA Player Assistance Program. On Thursday, the Capitals announced they’re bringing Jakub Vrana back on a PTO.

He’s still just 28 years old, which is crazy to think about. That’s definitely the type of guy you sign to a PTO and not a contract.

TSN: George Parros is just hiring his buddies, as Ryan Getzlaf is joining the NHL Department of Player Safety.

Boston Hockey Now: He’s not eligible to play in the NHL right now because of his arrest for assault and battery last year, but apparently Milan Lucic wants to make a comeback.

Montreal Hockey Now: Avalanche fans aren’t the only ones that are dreaming about Sidney Crosby joining their team…

New Jersey Hockey Now: That list of best wingers in the NHL? Yeah, they forgot Jesper Bratt.
