Evan’s NHL Daily: Sharks Get Askarov, Big Prospect Trade
We’ll see whether or not it all pans out in the end for the them, but they are accumulating quite a bit of young talent out in San Jose right now. On Friday, they added more talent to their organization by trading for one of the better goaltending prospects in the NHL.
Speaking of prospects, we’re a few days removed from a big-time prospect trade in the NHL. You don’t often see moves like this happen, but it’s a trade that should work out for both teams in the long run. One team will probably feel the impact a little bit quicker, though.

Friday was a quiet day at CHN, but if you missed it, here’s what former Russian National team scout Sergey Fedotov is saying about Valeri Nichushkin. It’s only one side of the story, so take everything with a grain of salt.
News And Rumors
San Jose Hockey Now: When you have Macklin Celebrini and Will Smith as your 1-2 punch down the middle for the next decade, you can afford to trade another young center. That’s why the Sharks were able to go out and get Yaroslav Askarov.
I like this deal from San Jose’s perspective, but to be honest, Nashville did better than I thought they would. They didn’t get an NHL player, which is what they originally wanted, but they got some good assets. I liked David Edstrom at draft time and still do, but it’s a little strange that he’s now been traded twice. If you look at the assets San Jose used in this deal, they essentially moved Tomas Hertl for Askarov.
Sheng has more analysis at SJHN on the deal and why they love it for the Sharks.
Pittsburgh Hockey Now: Askarov wasn’t the only young player to ask for a trade this summer, as the Penguins moved former first round pick Brayden Yager to get Rutger McGroarty.
McGroarty immediately signed in Pittsburgh and will likely play in the NHL this season, adding a young player to an older team. This trade should pay off immediately for the Penguins.
ESPN: Diamond Sports Group might have gone bankrupt, but they’ve still agreed to broadcast NBA and NHL games for this upcoming season.
Meanwhile, still nothing new in Colorado between Altitude and Comcast.
Florida Hockey Now: Old Lou makes his players cut their hair and shave their beards when they sign with his teams, and social media kind of went off after Anthony Duclair posted pictures of his dreads cut off on Instagram.
New Jersey Hockey Now: The NHL 25 cover will feature all of the Hughes brothers. That doesn’t mean the game will be any good, though.
