Deen’s Daily: The Next New Jersey vs Detroit Game Will Be a Must Watch; Theodore Extension

Published

The Avalanche have another day off before playing three games over the next four days, all at Ball Arena. It’s been a tale of two seasons so far. They lost the first four games and surrendered 25 goals in that stretch. And since then, Colorado has won each of its last four games, surrendering just seven goals in the process.

Is it simply just that? The team is playing a far more structured game in front of the goaltending, but are Annunen’s saves making all the difference? I dove into that here.

Around The NHL

Chicago Hockey Now: The Blackhawks led 2-0 over the Nashville Predators before allowing three goals and eventually losing 3-2/ Despite all the offseason additions, Chicago is still struggling to string together a solid game. They’re 2-5-1 through eight games and young defenseman Alex Vlasic is already calling out his team’s efforts.

San Jose Hockey Now: Speaking of early-season struggles. The San Jose Sharks — the last-place team in 2023-24 — have not yet won a game. It’s been eight games and the Sharks are 0-6-2. What’s even more mindboggling is how long it’s been since they’ve led in a game. They are the only team so far without a victory.

Vegas Hockey Now: The Vegas Golden Knights have infinite money. And cap space. At least that’s the way it seems. After making two whopper deals last March for Tomas Hertl and Noah Hanifin — and signing Hanifin to a long-term extension, the Golden Knights extended another one of their big names for basically the rest of the prime of their career. Shea Theodore has signed a seven-year extension worth an annual average value of $7.425 million.

Detroit Hockey Now: One of, if not the most entertaining game of the season happened in Detroit on Thursday. The Red Wings defeated the New Jersey Devils 5-3 in a game that included several lead changes, comebacks, fights, and a massive exclamation point at the end of the game after Michael Rasmussen put the game away with an empty netter. More from DHN’s Bob Duff here.

The two teams meet again on Black Friday at Little Caesars Arena.
