Avs New Goalie Says He’s ‘Envisioned Playing Here’

Published

Colorado changed its goaltending tandem by trading Justus Annunen and a 2025 sixth-round pick to the Nashville Predators for Scott Wedgewood on Saturday.

Annunen’s inconsistency — 6-4 in nine starts with a goals-against average of 3.23 and a save percentage of .872 — led the team to make a change.

Wedgewood, 32, was drafted by the New Jersey Devils (84th overall) in 2010. He played four games for the Devils in 2015-16, spent the 2017-18 season with the Arizona Coyotes, and was back in New Jersey for the 2020-21 season and part of the 2021-22 season. He ended up back in Arizona for part of the 2021-22 season, then was traded to the Dallas Stars for a conditional pick in the 2023 NHL Draft on March 20, 2022. He signed with the Preds as a free agent this past offseason.

Avalanche Acquire Goaltender Scott Wedgewood From the Nashville Predators

“Honestly, you know, funny enough, I’ve kind of envisioned playing here over time,” Wedgewood said. “We talked about teams where you want to be and stuff, and, I’ve been fortunate with the time in Dallas, Arizona, Nashville. now here, I mean, I’m hitting some good cities. Can’t forget Jersey where I was drafted.”

The Brampton, Ontario native is familiar with the Avalanche having played against them over the years, and is excited to be part of a “Cup contender” team. He said his goal is to help establish consistency in the goaltending department but brings his skills.

“I’ve been kind of known as a room guy. I think I can implement that. It’s been one of those things as a backup goalie for the better part of my career, you got to find a way to stay in the league somehow,” Wedgewood said. “Trying to mesh top to bottom the room, high contracts, low contracts, old, young. We’re a team, and we can’t win without everyone, regardless of the night. You got guys that can do more any given night. But I think if you can blend it, make it a little bit more of a just like a group project — kind of the best way to put it, it’s a lot more fun.”

Wedgewood confirmed he will be the backup for Alexandar Georgiev against the Edmonton Oilers on Saturday night.

I wanna know where all the fans are that are delusional thinking this team is ok.

4-1 loss on home ice

Ken

Problem is not the players, it’s how they are playing. Trades are not the answer. Leaders need to step up and it’s time for a new coach. This is not news, it’s been the same issue since we hoisted the cup. Without fixing those 2 issues, another early exit, or missed playoffs are this teams fate.

Trades are the answer. They need to shake the core up. I mean rantenen is gonna be a UFA and wants to command 14 mil a year. Avs best interest is to trade rantenen. I saw a proposal from a Philly fan was rantenen

For
Konecny bonk(high prospect) and 2 1st rd picks. If that’s a real proposal I think the avs should accept.

Only coach out there that I know of is gallant. He would be perfect coach

I’m sure this will go over well, but they ought to be attempting to try to trade MacKinnon right now. Get a truckload for him while the value is higher than it should be. Dude is horrible in the defensive end and in the face off circle. And for a a guy wearing an “A” why is is his mug not in front of the cameras after games?

You trade mack, you are basically saying let the rebuild begin.

It’s not just him horrible in D zone. Everyone else is to and I think it has to do with the coaching.

Something def wrong with mack as he never shoots anymore and just wants to pass it and turn it over.

As sad as it may seem if feels as though we are 2/3 years prior to the cup win with the quality of play. Bednar’s comments after tonight’s game regarding the Annunun trade were interesting “I hope the trade works out for both teams/players” (paraphrasing). Why would you give rip how it works out for the other team? This thing is maybe worse than we maybe any of us thought.

Seems like this team has imploded since sakic stepped down. If they want to actually try and salvage this season, they need to fire bednar and trade rantenen

Poor bastard….if he actually believes this.
