It’s well documented that the Avalanche are a team oozing with talent. But something about how this season has gone hasn’t really inspired confidence that they would be able to erase a four-goal deficit. At least not now. Not after how things went in Tampa Bay the week prior. Not with their goaltending struggles. Not with the injuries ailing them. Not with their inconsistencies.

Wedgewood — making his sudden Avs debut — was a perfect 22-for-22 and ensured that five goals were enough to win the game. The talent at the other end got the job done. But Wedgewood’s steadiness in goal made all of it possible.
