Deen’s Daily: Georgiev Bounces Back in Detroit; Montembeault and Thompson Go Head to Head
The Avalanche got a massive performance out of Alexandar Georgiev on Saturday. The goalie made 29 saves in a 2-1 victory over the Detroit Red Wings where Colorado played with the lead for all but 10 minutes.
Jared Bednar commented on how it was nice to not chase a game. And ultimately, it was largely thanks to his goalie. Georgiev made at least two big stops in the first period to allow the Avs to score first and hang on to the lead at the first intermission.
He was also great in the second period when Detroit was the better team. In the third, after facing just one shot in 17 minutes, the goaltender needed to stand on his head in the final 2:31 and make eight saves, most of which were in the crease. Georgiev stopped six shots in a 17-second flurry for the Red Wings.

Pittsburgh Hockey Now: The Penguins have played better since acquiring Phil Tomasino from Nashville. The forward was injured on Saturday but the team still pulled out a victory vs Toronto.

San Jose Hockey Now: MacKenzie Blackwood made 49 saves against the Florida Panthers. Was it enough to earn the win?
