10 Observations: Blackwood Beats Former Team, Georgiev Lets in 4 Goals, Again (+)

Mackenzie Blackwood and the Colorado Avalanche were victorious on Thursday, defeating the San Jose Sharks 4-2, led by Alexandar Georgiev.

Just 10 days after the goalies switched places, they got a chance to face each other. Colorado is the better team on paper and in the standings. They were the clear-cut favorites coming into this one. But during long stretches of the game, they let the Sharks hang around and play with the lead. Despite all of that, they still came out on top thanks to two goals from an unlikely hero in Joel Kiviranta.

Blackwood made 32 saves while Georgiev stopped 27. San Jose led 34-31 in shots in the losing effort. For the Avs, it’s their 19th win of the season as they look to string together a long enough winning streak to separate themselves from the middling pack of teams fighting for wildcard positioning.
