Deen’s Daily: What Went Wrong For Avalanche vs Habs; McLellan Elevates Detroit; Miller vs Pettersson

What went wrong for the Avalanche against the Habs on Saturday? Overtime games were aplenty on Sunday — continuing a trend that began the day before. Also, the Canucks are considering trading one or both of its top two star centers. Which teams should take advantage?

All that and more on this edition of Deen’s Daily — January 6.

Colorado Hockey Now

Sunday was a light day on the writing front for CHN. It’s been a long week for the Avalanche with all the practices, games, and storylines. Gabriel Landeskog skated, Jared Bednar was heated after the epic Buffalo game, etc.

Instead, I let you all enjoy the Broncos securing a playoff spot while I sat back and watched the Detroit Lions pummel the Vikings to lock up the No. 1 seed in the NFC.

Anyway, back to hockey.

Check out my 10 Observations from the Avs’ loss to the Montreal Canadiens. Per usual, it comes with a snippet of behind-the-scenes interaction involving the new goalies.

Around the NHL

Pittsburgh Hockey Now: The Penguins forced OT but the jinx against Carolina continues. The team wasn’t as happy about this performance as one would think, especially considering the point they got in the standings for getting the game past regulation.

Montreal Hockey Now: The latest Habs Wrap has you covered on the excellent start to young goalie Jakub Dobes’ career, and more. I thought Dobes looked solid two nights ago but I don’t believe he truly was tested by the Avalanche’s star power as much as he should’ve been. It was the Avs’ worst performance in a long time. I’ll admit, that breakaway save on Artturi Lehkonen in OT after he exited the penalty box was clutch.

Philadelphia Hockey Now: There were many OT games over the weekend. The Flyers were on the losing end of one against Toronto in a matchup between two 6’7 goalies.

New Jersey Hockey Now: Elliotte Friedman reported on Hockey Night in Canada that the likelihood of one or both of J.T. Miller and Eliass Pettersson getting shipped out of Vancouver is growing. Should the Devils look into acquiring one of them?

Detroit Hockey Now: Five differences Todd McLellan is making in Detroit.

Boston Hockey Now: How about another OT game, this time between the Islanders and Bruins on Sunday?
