Deen’s Daily: Hush the Crosby to Avalanche Rumors; Avs Get Much-Needed Day Off; Heiskanen Hurt

Published

on

The Avalanche finally have a day off. It’s also a good time to (again) slow down on the Crosby trade rumors. Also, Dallas’ top defenseman was injured on an ugly play and another defenseman in Montreal also suffered an injury.

All that and more on this edition of Deen’s Daily — January 29.

Colorado Hockey Now

The road trip is finally over and the Avalanche have a chance to regroup with a day off in Denver following an emotional four days. On Tuesday, the third period got away from them in a 5-2 loss to the New York Islanders.

Aside from good health for Valeri Nichushkin (and perhaps Gabriel Landeskog), what else does Colorado need? Catch my updated trade board, released on Monday following the Mikko Rantanen trade.

Around the NHL

Heiskanen Hurt: Dirty play in the Dallas — Vegas game on Tuesday. Mark Stone tripped Miro Heiskanen and injured the Stars’ top defenseman. Stone seemed to get tripped before falling into Heiskanen but it’s a bad play all around and would sting if the Stars miss him for any period of time.

Pittsburgh Hockey Now: It might be time to slow down on the Sidney Crosby rumors, again. A close source to the team shrugged off the latest speculation from the hockey world. The dream of Crosby to the Avs doesn’t seem likely right now.

Montreal Hockey Now: The Habs got goalie’d by Connor Hellebuyck and lost a defenseman to injury in the process. Tough game for a team fighting for a playoff spot.

New Jersey Hockey Now: The Devils need more from Timo Meier. Is another second-half breakout coming?

NYI Hockey Now: Hear what the Islanders room had to say about both Simon Holmstrom and Alexander Romanov following the Islander’s win over the Avalanche.

Boston Hockey Now: Two players scored a hat trick against Boston on Tuesday. Boston played the struggling Buffalo Sabres. Tough look.

Several teams trying to make the playoffs possibly losing d-men. If their players look like they will lose a lot of time, those teams will be trying to get what they can from the d-men on the market. The Avs need to get what they can before there is no improvement available.

MacFarlund seems more proactive and faster on the draw than other GM’s. We’ll shall see. Terrible takeout of Heiskanen. As someone who has been hurt a lot, you would think that Stone wouldn’t make that kind of play. He dives at his knee like an NFL player cutting the knees out under of an offensive lineman. It should warrant a suspension but the DoPS (Department of Player Safety) has a lousy record of protecting players and looking the other way. Whoops – upon further review, it looks like Stone trips over a Dallas player’s stick and then goes into Heiskanen.… Read more »

Many seem to believe that Crosby will remain a Penguin until he retires, just as many thought Rantanen would finish his career with the Avalanche. What makes more sense? That Crosby finishes his career with a team drowning in mediocrity, or that Crosby joins his good friend MacKinnon on a competitive, Stanley Cup-contending team? Isn’t the Avalanche currently looking for a center? What would be more surprising, the fact that Rantanen is no longer a member of the Avalanche, or that Crosby is traded to the Avalanche to join MacKinnon? Of course, MacKinnon and Crosby won’t just say ‘hello’ at… Read more »

Would we give Mackinnon to the Penguins just so he could play with Sid? Same question the other way. Even if they would trade him, without Mikko being in the deal, they would want just about want our entire team plus picks just to make the deal. I am sure Bednar would be happy to play 3v5 for 60 minutes and just play Mack, Makar and Sid the whole game. That is all that would be left. At least travel and hotel costs would go way down. I am sure after writing this I will see a report where we… Read more »

“We limited ourselves to teams where Raymond Bourque would have a chance to win the Stanley Cup,” Bruins general manager Harry Sinden said after Boston’s 5-1 loss to Ottawa. The 39-year-old defenseman was traded along with forward Dave Andreychuk for forward Brian Rolston, defenseman Martin Grenier, center Sami Pahlsson and Boston’s choice of a first-round pick in either 2000 or 2001. “With this acquisition, we’ve brought in the greatest defenseman of all time, and the greatest sniper in Dave Andreychuk. We’re thrilled,” Avalanche general manager Pierre Lacroix said. “With his presence and charisma, as a person he’s going to bring… Read more »

Bourque was cupless. Sid may want another, but does not need it. Boston made a great gesture in that move, but also traded 2 end of career players for 4 parts coming back. We cannot afford to give up that much, and Pittsbutgh is not trading Sid out of the goodness in their heart.

It’s Crosby who decides if he leaves Pittsburgh and no one else.

No mention of Rutherford confirming the disfunction in the Canucks locker room???

A few people here were saying it’s blown out of proportion and made up by the media…

Is there any way to subpoena Landeskog? What the fvck is going on with that guy?
