Coach’s Perspective: What Avs are Focused on vs Blues

The St. Louis Blues are 10 points behind the Colorado Avalanche but Friday’s division matchup will be a tough battle for both teams. The Avs are 1-3-1 in their last five and the Blues are 1-4-0.

“It’s a dangerous offensive team. They’ve been really good on the defensive side of it. Some of their numbers are better than ours. Some of ours are better than theirs. So like, it’s go time. You got to go prove it on the ice, and someone needs to get the results tonight. I’m sure hoping it’s us.”

On the other hand, Blues head coach Jim Montgomery knows his team will face a challenge against the Avalanche’s special teams.

How the Rising Salary Cap Will Impact the Avalanche

“Their power play, the speed in their transition, both offensively and defensively. They’re a team that has high-end superstars in the league, and they come to play every night.

“What makes them so dangerous is that once they get control of the puck, they get tight inside the dots. And the only guy that’s not inside the dots is (Cale) Makar. And when he gets it with time and space, when they’re low, he’s dangerous, and he finds seams, and they move off the puck extremely well,” Montgomery said.

This is the first of four meetings between the Central Division rivals, and it is the first home game for newly acquired Avalanche forwards Martin Necas and Jack Drury.
