The league released salary cap estimations for the upcoming three seasons. How will that affect the Avs? Also, Colorado dominated St. Louis and Martin Necas got his first goal in the process. J.T. Miller has finally been traded away from Vancouver.
All that and more on this edition of Deen’s Daily — February 1.

The Avs came out firing against the Blues, defeating them 5-0ย in their first game back at home without Mikko Rantanen. Necas scored one of four goals in the first period.
With salary cap numbers released, I wrote about the impact it’ll have on the Avs moving forward.
Around the NHL
J.T. Miller: I guess Friday night is the new prime time in the NHL world. One week after the Avs shocked the league with the Mikko Rantanen trade, the Vancouver Canucks sent Miller to the New York Rangers. This wasn’t the same type of surprise. It’s been reported for weeks that Miller would probably get traded before the 4 Nations break.
The Rangers took Miller off of my Avalanche trade board a day after Calgary acquired Morgan Frost — another player the Avs could’ve targeted before the March 7 trade deadline.

Another Pettersson in Vancouver: The Canucks quickly followed up that trade by bringing in another Pettersson — this time the defenseman, Marcus, from the Penguins. Here’s the breakdown of that trade from the Pens’ angle.
Pettersson was also on my trade board.
Pittsburgh Hockey Now: Check out this feature on goalie Alex Nedeljkovic, who has taken full advantage of an opportunity to play a bigger-than-expected role with the Penguins this season.
Montreal Hockey Now: The rising cap and its impact on the Habs.
Philadelphia Hockey Now: Thursday’s trade between the Flyers and Flames feels like old news at this point. But here’s the full breakdown from the Flyers point of view.
Ottawa Hockey Now: The Sens finally have an 82-game sample size with all of Tim Stutzle, Shane Pinto, and Josh Norris in the lineup at the same time. How have they looked?
New York Islanders: The Islanders claimed Adam Boqvist off waivers, a player I was curious to see if the Avalanche would put in a claim for. He’s the third blueline addition to their team in just over a week.
Vegas Hockey Now: It didn’t take long for Brandon Saad to find his new home. He signed a one-year deal with the Golden Knights after terminating his contract with the Blues.
