Deen’s Daily: Kadri Not Going Anywhere; Miller Debuts, Loses; Big Trades Keep Coming

Trades continue to trickle in daily around the NHL. But don’t expect Nazem Kadri to leave Calgary. The Avs had no lapses or passengers in their big Friday night win over St. Louis. Also, Kyle Dubas and Mike Grier moved closer to being big sellers at the deadline.
All that and more on this edition of Deen’s Daily — February 2.
Colorado Hockey Now
The Avalanche held practice at Family Sports on Saturday ahead of an early 1 p.m. Sunday puck drop against the Philadelphia Flyers. Goalie Scott Wedgewood was absent from the skate but there was no update from the head coach afterward. Trent Miner was called up later in the evening and will likely draw in as the backup to Mackenzie Blackwood.
Colorado’s starter got his first shutout since joining the team in the Avs’ 5-0 victory over the Blues. Catch my 10 Observations piece from that one-sided game.
Around the NHL
Saturday Night Headlines: Once again, it’s time to put to rest the dream of Kadri reuniting with the Colorado Avalanche.
Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman said during Hockey Night in Canada that the Calgary Flames are not interested in trading the 2022 Stanley Cup Champion this season. They are also going to keep Rasmus Andersson and MacKenzie Weegar.
The Flames made a massive move earlier in the week, acquiring both Morgan Frost and Joel Farabee from the Philadelphia Flyers. That was a nice reward for their current roster, which has them in the thick of the wildcard race. But it’s also two solid pickups for future years.
San Jose Hockey Now: Another trade broke early Saturday. The Sharks sent two veterans, Mikael Granlund and Cody Ceci to the Dallas Stars for two draft picks. Dallas is interested in re-signing both players. But they will be huge additions for the playoff run regardless.

Pittsburgh Hockey Now: The Pens shutout the Preds on Saturday. Here’s how it happened. Before the trade, Dubas, who traded Marcus Pettersson and Drew O’Connor the prior night, met with media to discuss Pittsburgh’s trade deadline plans.
Montreal Hockey Now: Ivan Demidov is on the verge of breaking a KHL record.
Philadelphia Hockey Now: General manager Danny Briere talks trade, roster moves, and outlook moving forward.
New Jersey Hockey Now: The Hurricanes added Mikko Rantanen and Taylor Hall. The Rangers got J.T. Millers. Here’s what the Devils think of those divisional additions.
NYI Hockey Now: Another new defenseman pitches in for the Islanders, who won their seventh straight game.
Detroit Hockey Now: The Red Wings are on course to have an All-Yzerman Drafted Defense Core.
Boston Hockey Now: Speaking of the Rangers, Miller scored twice in his debut. But the Bruins still doubled up New York.
Ottawa Hockey Now: The Sens put on a masterful performance over the Wild.
