Deen’s Daily: Homestand Statistics; Blues & Leafs Blow It; Wolf, Hutson and the Calder Trophy

How did the Avalanche pull off an impressive homestand before their shootout loss in Minnesota? Colorado is in Calgary to take on Calder Trophy hopeful, while Lane Hutson in Montreal continues his case for it. Also, both the Leafs and Blues blew it in their playoff races.
All that and more on this edition of Deen’s Daily — March 14.
Colorado Hockey Now
The Avs are back on the road for their second of three meetings against the Calgary Flames. Colorado won the first meeting at the Saddledome in early February, right before the 4 Nations Face-Off break.
In the meantime, check out this statistical breakdown of their perfect 6-0-0 homestand. I spent way more time than I’m willing to admit gathering some of these numbers. So, please click, read, and enjoy.

Around the NHL
Pittsburgh Hockey Now: Have you ever tried to win a game against a non-playoff team so you can gain ground in the playoff race, only to see unlikely goal-scorers completely ruin your night? That’s what the St. Louis Blues felt on Thursday. Shout out to Ryan Graves for getting his first of the season. And to Tristan Jarry for another solid game.
Florida Hockey Now: The most Toronto Maple Leafs-iest thing ever is losing a game in regulation against a division rival fighting you for the top seed.
Maple Leafs fall to 8-9-0 vs Eastern Conference teams that are currently in a playoff position, with a -10 goal differential

Philadelphia Hockey Now: How about those pesky Philadelphia Flyers, getting to a shootout before beating the Tampa Bay Lightning.
Montreal Hockey Now: Lane Hutson continues to make his case for the Caldet Trophy. He just reached the 50-point mark.
New Jersey Hockey Now: In a battle between two of the more disappointing teams as of late, an unlikely goal scorer led the Devils over Edmonton.
NYI Hockey Now: What’s the latest on the Kyle Palmieri extension talks?
Detroit Hockey Now: Detroit continues to stock its cupboards with prospects nobody’s heard of. The last time this happened, they walked right into another golden era. It’s the Red Wings’ way.
San Jose Hockey Now: This is cool. Sheng Peng is so highly respected in the San Jose market that he’s running a Q&A for goalie Yaroslav Askarov. Ask the netminder anything!
Ottawa Hockey Now: Casey Mittelstadt scored one of three goals for the Bruins, but the Senators doubled them up 6-3.
Vegas Hockey Now: The cannon didn’t go off in Columbus, but Brandon Saad did.
Not mentioned here but saw that Vegas signed Adin Hill to an extension of 6×6.25. IMO he’s in the same tier as Blackwood and MacKenzie’s contract is now looking really good. Also, I think that unless a goalie is HOF caliber going longer than 5 years has risk
Not sad to see the Blues lose with old friends Graves and Timmons contributing to the damage. Love it.
