10 Observations: It’s Been Two Months Since the Avalanche Have Lost At Ball Arena (+)

Published

I’ll never forget watching Neal Pionk beat Mackenzie Blackwood 17 seconds into overtime on January 22 at Ball Arena. I don’t think any of us would’ve thought at the time that the goal would effectively end Mikko Rantanen’s Avalanche career.

But as we look back over two months later, I certainly wouldn’t have believed that Colorado would still be undefeated at home since that game. In the Martin Necas era, the Avs are 10-0-0 at Ball Arena following a 5-2 victory over the Detroit Red Wings.

Given how the season started, and the team’s inability to get a save, let alone win a game in October, it would’ve been hard to see them be where they are now. At 24-10-2, Colorado has the sixth most wins at home in the league.

Here’s what went down against the Red Wings, along with sights from the locker room after the fact.
