Deen’s Daily: Avalanche Have Right Mindset; Brad Marchand’s Successful Panthers Debut

Published

on

The Avalanche have the right mindset heading into the final handful of weeks before the playoffs. Also, the long-awaited Brad Marchand debut with the Florida Panthers has finally arrived. Trust me, it looks weird.

All that and more on this edition of Deen’s Daily — March 29.

The Avs are set to host the red-hot St. Louis Blues this afternoon. Before puck drop, you can catch up on my latest 10 Observations piece, highlighting what the team is doing so well following the 4-0 shutout over the L.A. Kings on Thursday. It’s business as usual for the Avalanche these days.

Around The NHL

Florida Hockey Now: Brad Marchand debuted for the Panthers, and it looked as weird as you probably expect. He assisted on the game-winning goal in OT.

Pittsburgh Hockey Now: Here comes the kids. Penguins call up two prospects for the last stretch of the season.

Montreal Hockey Now: The Habs ran out of gas. And it continued a hilarious trend of nobody actually wanting to lock up the second wildcard spot in the Eastern Conference. It feels like last season all over again.

Philadelphia Hockey Now: Cam York took responsibility for the drama around his playing time in recent games.

New Jersey Hockey Now: The Devils got shut out. It’s always funny to see that, like the Avs, New Jersey is third in its division. These two teams are not the same.

NYI Hockey Now: Speaking of that ridiculous wildcard race, here’s where the Isles’ chances currently stand.

Detroit Hockey Now: Michigan State University was upset in the NCAA tournament. Which, as a Michigan alumnus, makes me happy. It also means Detroit can sign goalie Trey Augustine if he’s ready to go pro.

The Wings are still alive in the wildcard race despite going 3-11 in their last 14.

San Jose Hockey Now: Nico Sturm was traded at the deadline for the second time in his career, moving from San Jose to Florida. His fiancรฉ shared what that’s like to experience.

Vegas Hockey Now: The Knights came from behind to beat Chicago in the third period. Vegas is one of four teams currently ahead of the Avs in league standings. It might not matter to start the postseason, but it could down the line.
