10 Observations: Avalanche Need Something, Anything, To Play For Before Playoffs (+)

DENVER — All the Avalanche need is eight points in the last seven games to secure third place in the Central Division. That would guarantee that both the Minnesota Wild and St. Louis Blues can’t catch them, even if they win all their remaining games. Looking up, the Dallas Stars need eight points in as many games to ensure that Colorado can’t catch them, either.

Basically, it’s going to take a lot to unseat the Avs from third in the Central. We know that much.

But this team needs something to play for — anything to give them motivation before the playoffs.

How, or what, can they manufacture? Is it even necessary?
